Three FUN bike riders in the top-25 in the Vuelta del Porvenir 2020
With three riders in the top 25 and a unique experience that will be unforgettable. We finished the season in the Vuelta del Porvenir. We’re very happy with our performance!
The most important U-18 competition of Colombian cycling, organized by the Colombian Cycling Federation, was a show. We are very happy with our performance.
In the general classification we finished with three bike riders in the top 25 (around 200 riders): Paulo César Pantoja (12), Santiago Granados (14) and Óscar Blanco (22). ¡Great result! Then Brayam Usaquén (60) and Camilo Aguilar (64) finished the race. In the team standings we finished fifth, just like in 2019.
Paulo César Pantoja: «It was a great experience. At each stage we tried to fight, to be in the breakaways, to be key players. We gave all gave 100% and also as a team. For me, in my first year as a U-18 bike rider, the personal balance is very positive».
Camilo Aguilar: «It was a very good race. This year I had more experience and in this race I won much more. Although I had falls and puncture at the end, I think that makes you stronger. I have evolved. In this team I felt very professional and supported by a structure. The atmosphere was very cool».
Óscar Blanco: «Being in the top-30 in the general standings is very good. I felt really good, we tried several times, we were close. It was a very pleasant experience since we had not competed in a long time. I learned a lot».
This was the last competition with us from Óscar, Camilo and Santiago. Because of their age (they will turn 19 this year) they finish their process with us and move to U-23 category. We wish them well and thank them very much for allowing us to be part of their formation!
For Wilson Sandoval, sports director and coach at FUN, «the balance is very good. We have improved times and performance. We see that the work we have been doing in a methodical way has very valuable result. We leave happy. Let us hope that in 2021 it will bring us new challenges to overcome».
In this season finale we were able to confirm in competition that the boys are growing, that we can be protagonists of this type of races and that we are on the right track. Those who finish the process are left with good roots to continue their path”, said Jairo Chaves, general director of FUN.
